Juan Martínez was a Mexican distance runner who ran at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics. Martínez was orphaned at age seven but his older brother brought him to Mexico City where he survived and eventually found work and running. Martínez won three medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, gold in the 1970 10,000 metres, silver that year at 5K, and a bronze in the 10K in 1966. At the Pan American Games he won silver in the 10K in 1971 and a bronze in the 1967 5,000.
