Biography

The son of well-known poet José Craveirinha, Stélio Craveirinha took a different path in life and pursued track and field athletics. The highlight of his career came when he was selected to represent Mozambique in the long jump at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where he placed 27th in the qualifying round and was eliminated from the tournament. Domestically, he held several national records and, at the time of his death in October 2020, was still the recordholder in the 4x100 metre relay with Leonardo Loforte, Constantino Reis, and Vicente Daniel. The mark of 41.7, set on July 11, 1982, had remained standing for almost 30 years at that point. Craveirinha later worked as a coach and sports administrator.

Personal Best: LJ – 7.40 (1982).
