Biography

IJke Buisma was a Dutch track and field athlete who represented the Olympia club in Aalsmeer where she specialised in the high jump. In June 1928 Buisma was one of twelve athletes who participated in the first Dutch women’s international athletics competition at a meet in Bruxelles, Belgium. The event was used as preparation for the upcoming Olympics in Amsterdam, with the Netherlands winning the competition against the Belgians. At the Games in Amsterdam, however, Buisma failed to record a valid jump in the final with three failures at 1.45 metres. She made up for her Olympic disappointment when she became the Dutch high jump champion in 1930.
