Biography

Gerard Carlier was a Dutch track and field athlete who represented AV ‘23 in Amsterdam. Carlier specialised in the high jump and was selected to compete at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At the Games he had three failures at 1.85 metres, the qualification height needed to advance to the final, and was eliminated. That same year he competed at the AAA Championships in London where he tied for third place. Whilst he never won a senior title Carlier was the Dutch student champion in the high jump in 1941. Following his athletics career he served in the Royal Dutch East Indies Army in Timor before joining the electronics giant Philips where he became a general manager for the company in Spain.
