Biography

Dutch track and field athlete Jaap Knol represented APGS in Amsterdam where he specialised in the javelin. In 1923 Knol won his first national title in the event and went on to win a further four titles during his career (1925, 1928–30). He also improved the Dutch record on two occasions, the first in 1928 and the second in 1933. In 1928 he competed at the Amsterdam Olympics but had a disappointing Games finishing 25th out of the 28 athletes who participated. In addition to track and field Knol was a keen footballer, playing for AFC Ajax and becoming the chair of Jos football club.
