Arie van Leeuwen began his track and field career as a long jumper with Pro Patria in Rotterdam before switching to the hurdles. Now representing PSV in Eindhoven, Van Leeuwen was selected to compete in the 110 metres hurdles at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He finished fourth in his heat and was eliminated from the competition.
