Biography

Harry Wilson was a New Zealand track and field athlete who won multiple national titles as a sprinter and hurdler. Wilson won his first national title in 1915 with victory in the 440 yards hurdles. He went on to win three more titles in the event (1920–21, 1923), along with titles in the 120 yards hurdles (1920–21, 1923), and sprint titles in the 100 and 220 yards (both in 1922). In 1920 he won the 120 yards hurdles at the Australasian athletics championship, which earned him a place on New Zealand’s team for the Antwerpen Olympics. At the Antwerpen Games Wilson finished fourth in the 110 metres hurdles and had the honour of being the nation’s flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony.
