Roberto Abugattás was a Peruvian high jumper who jumped at the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Games. Abugattás was Bolivarian Champion in the high jump in 1961, 1965, 1973, and 1977, finishing as runner-up in 1969 to his brother, Fernando. Roberto was South American Champion in 1963, placing second in 1965, 1967, and 1971, and winning bronze in 1974. He also won a bronze medal at the 1967 Pan American games and the 1963 Universiade.
Abugattás continued to compete, winning the 2011 Master’s World Championship in the high jump. That year he received a Medal of Honor on the Grade of Grand Cross from the Peruvian Congress. During the COVID-19 lockdowns he and his granddaughter appeared in several iconic Peruvian television commercials, termed “Pacho and Atena”. At the 2019 Pan American Games Opening Ceremony Roberto Abugattás carried the Pan American Sports flag.
