Biography

Teresa Nowak was a Polish track and field athlete who competed in the hurdles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Nowak won her first national titles in 1967 with victory in the 80 metres hurdles and the 4 x 100 metres relay. Now focusing on just one discipline, she won two further Polish titles in the 100 metres hurdles (1969, 1974), in addition to setting a dozen national records from 1967 to 1974. She competed at three editions of the European Championships where she won bronze in the 100 metres hurdles in 1969 and 1974. During this period she came fifth in the final of the 100 metres hurdles at the 1972 München Olympics and won bronze in the 60 metres hurdles at the 1973 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Nowak retired from competing in the late 1970s and married Polish decathlete Lech Nikitin. The couple moved to Sweden where they trained multiple athletes including Moa Hjelmer, who won gold in the 400 metres at the 2012 European Athletics Championships.

Personal Best: 100H – 12.5 (1974).
