Biography

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s Jan Cych competed in long-distance running events at the Polish championships, winning bronze in the 3,000 metres steeplechase in 1966. With his consistent performances Cych was selected to represent Poland in the event at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he finished 11th in his heat. He spent most of his athletics career at Śląsk Wrocław where he ran in distances from 1,500 to 10,000 metres before becoming a coach. His wife Stanisława was the Polish champion in the 1,500 and 3,000 metres in the early 1980s.

Personal Best: 3000S – 8:39.0 (1969).
