German-born boxer Rupert König was Austrian champion in light-welterweight (1957-64) and welterweight (1965). He participated in the 1960 Rome and 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the light-welterweight division but did not advance to the second round on either occasion.
König won nine Austrian national titles, winning the light-welterweight division from 1957-64 and welterweight in 1965. In 1959 and 1965 König also won two bronze medals, at European Championships. He also participated in the 1957, 1961, and 1963 Europeans. He was the father of Conny König.
After his active career he turned to coaching and became regional and national coach in Austria. He also took care of young people who had committed crimes.
