Biography

Polish distance runner Stanisław Ziffer represented Wisła Kraków and won eight national titles in the first half of the 1920s. Ziffer won his first title in 1921 with victory in the cross-country team race. He then won titles in the 1,500 metres (1922), 3,000 metres (1923), 5,000 metres (1922), 10,000 metres (1924), 3,000 metres steeplechase (1923), 3,000 metres team race (1923), and again in the cross-country team race (1924). He also set national records in the 2,000 metres, 3,000 metres, and the 5,000 metres. At the 1924 Paris Olympics he ran in the 5,000 metres, 3,000 metres steeplechase, and the 3,000 metres team race, but did not advance from the heats in any of those. Ziffer was a non-commissioned officer in the Polish Army who died sometime between 1939 and 1945. He was probably killed in action in the September Campaign but the full details of his fate are not known.

Personal Bests: 3000 – 9:33.5 (1926); 5000 – 16:20.0 (1922); 3000S – 10:28.0 (1923).
