Romanian track and field athlete Francisc Nemeș was a talented runner who won multiple medals in the 400 and 800 metres in the 1930s. In 1932 and 1933 Nemeș was both the national champion and the Balkan champion in the 400 metres, with him winning a third national title in the event in 1936. From 1932 to 1938 he won more than a dozen other medals at the Balkan championships, with two silvers in the 400 metres (1935, 1936) and bronze in the 800 metres (1937), along with a plethora of medals in relay races. Nemeș ran in the 400 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was eliminated in the heats.
