Biography

James Doig was a South African track and field athlete who competed in middle-distance races. Doig ran in the 800 metres at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics, reaching the semi-finals. After the Olympics he travelled to Europe and had a lengthy career in the miliary. In the 1944 New Year Honours he was listed as an additional member of the military division of the Most Excellent Order where he served in the railway, harbour & sea transport directorate. Doig retired from the Army in September 1955 where he had reached the rank of captain.
