As Belgium’s national heavyweight champion, Max Marsille competed in the 1952 Olympics. After a bye, he won his 2nd round match against an Egyptian. However, a walkover in another match meant a redraw was ordered, and Marsille now lost his 2nd round bout. After defending his national title in 1953, Marsille turned pro in 1954. After some intial wins against Belgian opponents, he failed to make an impression internationally, and retired with a 7 (3 KOs)-6-1 record in 1958. Marsille then worked at Belgium’s national airline Sabena, eventually becoming head of the IT department. In 1982, he entered politics as a member of the Walloon Socialist Party, eventually heading the welfare council (CPAS) in the town of Rebecq. In the 1990s, he was president of provincial public transport organization, TEC Brabant wallon.
