Britta Bilač at first competed for her birth country of East Germany, but she adopted Slovene nationality in 1991 after marrying Slovene long jumper Borut Bilač. She qualified for the Olympic high jump finals in 1992 at Barcelona (15th) and 1996 in Atlanta (ninth). In 1990 she was East German indoor champion and won the silver medal at the European Indoors for East Germany.
For Slovenia Bilač won the World Cup in 1994, finished seventh at the 1997 Worlds, and claimed the silver medal at the 1995 World Indoors. She also won a gold medal at the 1994 Europeans, and placed fourth at the 1992 European Indoors, finishing seventh two years later. In 1994, she was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Slovenia.
