Biography

Bermuda’s Roy Johnson began his boxing career at his local youth club in Hamilton where his talent was soon noticed. Johnson competed at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the light-welterweight class where he defeated Fred Fuller before losing to Paul Mulenga in the quarter-finals. Two years later Johnson fought at the 1972 München Olympics, losing in his opening bout to Anatoly Kamnev by knockout. In 1978 he fought Dave Green, the then European light-welterweight champion, in a non-title fight at the Albert Hall in London, England. Johnson then continued to box in Canada until his retirement in 1981.
