Biography

Swiss all-round track and field athlete Armin Guhl represented Stadtturnverein Winterthur where he specialised in the decathlon. During the 1930s Guhl was the national champion in the event on four occasions (1931, 1933, 1936–37). In 1934 he finished fifth at the European Athletics Championships in Torino, setting a Swiss record in the process. Two years later he finished sixth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, which including finishing second in the discus, and third in the 100 metres. His athletics career came to end just two years later after suffering a skiing accident. Guhl had a remarkable record, with him winning 47 of the 52 decathlons he contested.
