Biography

Swiss track and field athlete Josef Neumann was a good all-round competitor who represented STV St. Gallen. Neumann competed in the javelin throw at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished 22nd with a best effort of 52.00 metres. Two years later he won bronze in the decathlon at the 1938 European Athletics Championships in Paris, where he had the best results in the 400 metres and the javelin. After the war Neumann competed in the javelin at the 1946 European Athletics Championships in Oslo, finishing sixth.
