Swiss track and field athlete Gottfried “Godi” Utiger specialised in middle and long-distance running races. Between 1937 and 1941 Utiger was the national champion in the 1,500 metres, 5,000 metres, and the 10,000 metres. He also won the Swiss cross-country championship in 1937. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he ran in the 5,000 metres but was eliminated in the heats. After his athletics career Utiger owned a carpentry shop in Bern.
