Biography

Nell Sjöström was a Swedish track and field athlete who represented Kvinnliga IK in Sandviken. Sjöström specialised as a sprinter and won her first medal at the national championships in 1949 with bronze in the 100 metres. The following year she did the double in the 100 and 200 metres, winning gold in both races, and went on to repeat the feat in 1951. In 1952 she won silver in the 100 metres along with bronze in the 200 metres, before reversing the medal order at the 1953 championships. Her final medal at the Swedish championships came in 1954 with bronze in the 100 metres. Sjöström ran in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either race.
