Biography

Sweden possessed a large group of top milers at the 1948 Olympics, as three Swedes had topped the 1947 season best list. The top favourite was 1946 European Champion Lennart Strand, who had beaten Henry Eriksson to the title. In London, the two were once again sprinting for the gold, but this time Eriksson was the stronger runner, taking the championship in the middle of an English downpour. Eriksson finished his athletic career after the London Olympics, returning to his job as a fireman. Remarkably, Eriksson had shared a 4×1500 metres World Record with three other fireman from his athletics club in Gävle, Sweden.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:44.7 (1947).
