Bror Fock

Away from his day job as a clerk Bror Fock was a Swedish champion long-distance runner. Fock was a three-time national champion in the 10,000 metres, winning the title in 1909, 1910, and 1912. He also finished in second place in the race in 1911 and 1913. In 1912 Fock briefly held the world record in the 3,000 metres, initially bettering the time set by Finland’s Hannes Kolehmainen before Kolehmainen regained the record less than two months later.

At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics Fock ran in the 10,000 metres but he failed to finish in his heat. He had better success as part of the 3,000 metres team event where Fock won a silver medal. In the cross-country race he finished in 17th place out of the 45 competitors who started the race. Sweden won the gold medal in the team cross-country event but Fock’s placement did not count towards the team total, with just the best three placings contributing.
