Biography

From 1927 to 1932 Swedish sprinter Björn Kugelberg won 14 medals at the national championships across four different disciplines. Kugelberg won his first Swedish championship medal in 1927 with bronze in the 100 metres. He followed that with another bronze in 1928 before winning gold in the event in 1931. He was most prolific in the 200 metres where he won five medals with gold (1931), silver (1928, 1932), and bronze (1929–30). Kugelberg’s other golds came in the 4 x 100 metres relay (1928) and the 400 metres (1932).

Kugelberg ran in the 200 metres and the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He reached the semi-finals in the 200 metres and narrowly missed out on a medal in the relay when the Swedish team finished in fourth place. He was also scheduled to run in the 400 metres in Amsterdam but did not start the race.

Kugelberg was also an accomplished sports shooter and won gold in his age group at the national championships in 1921 when he was just 16-years-old. After his athletics career he continued in shooting and won gold in 1939 at the Swedish championships.

Personal Bests: 200 – 21.9 (1928); 400 – 49.2 (1931).
