Biography

Lennart Lind took up pole vaulting after World War II, but was unlucky to be at his prime during the midst of the career of Ragnar Lundberg, who dominated the Swedish pole-vaulting scene from 1948 through 1958. Nonetheless, Lind was often runner-up at the national championships and in 1952 was selected to represent his country at the Helsinki Olympic Games, where he placed joint-11th with Tamás Homonnay of Hungary. In 1958, he placed fourth at the European Championships, well above Lundberg. After losing the 1959 national championships to non-Olympian Svante Rinaldo, Lind finally claimed the Swedish pole-vaulting title in 1960.

Personal Best: PV – 4.40 (1957).
