Biography
Swedish policeman Emil Magnusson was a specialist in the discus throw, setting several national records and winning an Olympic bronze medal. In 1911 Magnusson improved the national record in the discus on two occasions, bettering the distance set by Eric Lemming before Lemming reclaimed the record later the same year. Gunnar Nilsson then improved the record in 1912 before Magnusson set another national record in 1913. After slightly improving his own mark Magnusson went on to hold the record until 1917.
At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics Magnusson won the bronze medal in the discus throw with both hands and finished in eighth place in the standard discus event. Despite his success in the discipline he never won the Swedish title, with his best effort being a silver medal at the 1913 championships.
