Swedish track and field athlete Johan Mattsson competed for MAI in Malmö where he specialised in the pole vault. Mattsson won his first medal at the national championships in 1919 when he finished in second place. He won two more silver medals (1920, 1922), along with a bronze (1921), before winning his one and only Swedish title in 1923. Mattsson finished in eighth place in the pole vault at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics with a best clearance of 3.60 metres.
