Biography

Long-distance runner Henry Palmé specialised in the marathon and dominated the event in Sweden during the 1930s and early 1940s. Palmé won his first medal in the marathon at the national championships with silver in 1933. He then won ten national titles in the race from 1934 to 1944, only missing out in 1943. In addition to his success in the marathon he also won medals in the team 8km cross-country race, including gold in 1941. Palmé ran in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished 13th. Two years later he won bronze in the race at the 1938 European Athletics Championships in Paris.

Personal Best: Mar – 2-36:56 (1939).
