Swedish all-round track and field athlete Gunnar Rönström represented IFK Sundsvall. At the Swedish national championships Rönström won silver in the long jump in 1904, silver in the high jump in 1905, and bronze in the long jump in 1906. In the same year as his bronze medal, he competed in the 100 metres, high jump, and long jump at the 1906 Intercalated Games. In the 100 metres Rönström finished in fifth place in his heat and was eliminated. He had better success in the field events, finishing in fifth place in the high jump and seventh place in the long jump.
Two years later Rönström finished in 10th place in the long jump at the 1908 London Olympics. He was also scheduled to take part in the high jump at the London Games but did not start the event. At his home Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 Rönström participated in the decathlon, but retired after completing only the first four disciplines.
