In 1902 Rolf Smedmark was one of the co-founders of Mariebergs IK sports club, where he worked as the secretary, treasurer, and chair of the organisation. Smedmark himself was an accomplished track and field athlete who held the Swedish records in the standing high jump from 1911 to 1912 and the 200 metres from 1914 to 1917. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics Smedmark reached the semi-finals in the 100 metres and competed in the standing high jump. He was also scheduled to run in the 200 metres, but did not start the race.
Smedmark had better success at the Swedish national championships, winning silver in the 4x100 metres relay in 1915, along with bronze in the same event in 1908 and 1917. He also won bronze in the standing high jump in 1918. After his athletics career Smedmark worked in a bank in Stockholm.
