Biography

Policeman Fred Warngård was a Swedish champion and Olympic medallist in the shot put. Warngård won bronze at the event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics with a best effort of 54.83 metres, a Swedish record that stood until 1941. The same year he became the national champion in both the hammer throw and the weight throw. He won a further title in the hammer throw in 1938, followed by another weight throw title in 1939. Warngård was only 43-years-old when he died in a hospital in Lund.
