Biography

Pavel Kantorek first ran the Košice Peace Marathon in 1955 and finished 21st. After just missing the podium in fourth in 1956, he won the event in 1958 and went on to victories in 1962 and 1964, with a second-place finish in 1961. He also won the Enschede and Ostrava Marathons in 1959 and the Fukuoka Marathon in 1961. At the Olympics, he represented Czechoslovakia in three editions from 1956 through 1964, placing 27th, 14th, and 25th respectively. He also competed in the 10,000 metres in 1956, finishing 11th. He retired from active competition in 1967 and used his medical training to work as a sports doctor, including a lengthy stint in Cuba.

Personal Bests: 10000 – 29:42.2 (1962); Mar – 2-18:44 (1964).
