Biography

Pavol Szikora was a Slovak racewalker who represented Dukla Banská Bystrica. One of the best racewalkers of his day Szikora was a six-time Czechoslovak champion in the 50km event (1983, 1985–86, 1988, 1990–91). His best international result came at the 1984 Friendship Games when he won the silver medal. A consistent athlete, he had good results throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, finishing 11th at the World Championships (1983), eighth at the European Championships (1986), and seventh at the World Championships (1987). Szikora competed for Czechoslovakia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics where he finished tenth. He returned to the Olympics four years later at Barcelona, but his form had dropped off, and he finished 27th.
