Yıldıray Pağda began his sporting career as a volleyball player at the Karataş Sports Club in his hometown of Adana, Turkey. By 1960 Pağda had switched to athletics and he represented the Turkish national team until 1965. He competed in the triple jump at the 1960 Roma Olympics where he finished in 38th place with a best mark of 14.11 metres.
