Mircea Dobrescu competed at three Olympics (1952, 1956, 1960), earning a silver medal in flyweight in 1956. He competed at five European Championships, winning silver medals in 1955 and 1957. He was 1954 World University Games Champion and 1955 Balkan Champion. Dobrescu actually continued boxing until 1982 when he was 52-years-old, having competed in over 200 bouts. He was named an Honored Master of Sports in Romania.
