Nenad Stekić

Nenad Stekić was a three-time Olympic long jumper who had a best finish of sixth in 1976 at Montréal. He was the Mediterranean Games Champion in 1975 and 1979, Balkan Games Champion in 1973-74, 1976, and 1978-80, and won the 1977 Universiade in the long jump. He had runner-up finishes at the 1974 and 1978 European Championships and the 1980 European Indoor Championships. He also competed at the European Championships in 1982 and 1990 and at the 1983 World Championships.

Stekić’s greatest accomplishment may have come in July 1975 at Montréal in a pre-Olympic meet when he jumped 8.45, the second longest jump of all-time to that date, behind only Bob Beamon’s legendary 1968 Olympic winning mark of 8.90. Stekić was world ranked in the top 10 eight times between 1974 and 1983, with high rankings of #2 in 1974, 1975, and 1978.
