Simo Važić

Simo Važić ran the 1,500 and 5,000 metres at the 1964 Olympics, but did not make either final. He ran at the European Championships in 1958, 1962, and 1966. Važić was the 1966 Balkan Champion in the 1,500 and won multiple Yugoslav Championships, as follows: 800 – 1964, 1,500 – 1960, 1963-64, 1966, 1968; 5,000 – 1965, 1967; 3,000 indoors – 1961; and cross-country – 1961-62 and 1965. He also won many Slovenian state titles, winning the 800 in 1958 and 1966, the 1,500 in 1962-3 and 1965-69, and the 5K in 1963 and 1968. Važić earned 36 caps for Yugoslavia between 1957-68. He set Yugoslav records for 1,500 and 5,000 metres in 1964, and set seven Slovenian records for the 1,500 and five for the 5K.
