Ko Nakamura won the women’s discus throw at the 1935 Japan Athletics Championships with 35.90 metres. While attending Hokkai Girls High School in Sapporo she reached 37.80 in winning the Japanese Olympic trials and was selected to represent Japan at the Olympics in the following year. At only 16-years-old, Nakamura had an excellent fourth place in Berlin which made her a medal candidate for the 1940 Tokyo Olympics. In January 1939 she still took part in a training camp for the Japanese throwers in Taiwan. She seems to have retired when Tokyo returned the right to host the Olympics.
Nakamura is not the same athlete as Toyoko Yoshino, who competed in discus throw in 1952 and 1956 for Japan. However, for many years, they were considered to be the same athlete, but photographs have shown that they are different athletes.
