Georges Augoyat was born Augoyard, but the family name was changed to Augoyat when he was five years old. Riding for the Cycle-Club de Paris, he was French amateur sprint champion in 1898, and that year he also finished fourth at the Grand Prix de Paris and sixth in Paris-Rouen.
