Larry Manogue

Although listed as an entrant in the 1908 Official Report there was, until recently, no evidence that he actually competed in the Olympics. However, a report in the South London Harriers Gazette states that he started in heat four of the 800, but dropped out around the halfway mark. The reasons for his selection are unclear, as there is no record of any outstanding performance prior to the Games and he finished last in a slow heat at the AAA Championships.

Growing up, Larry Manogue was educated at St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny City, where he proved himself a great lover of athletics, and won several prizes on the track. Later on, when he went to live in London, he joined the athletics club South London Harriers. Manogue worked in the civil service in England. He was the honorary secretary of the Irish Club, Russell Square, London and editor of the club journal The Four Provinces Club Gazette. He was also the honorary secretary of the London-Irish Golfing Society, from 1914 until his death, and was a member of the South Herts Golf Club.
