One of the finest free skaters of her time, it was a shame for Bridget Shirley Adams that Jeannette Altwegg was in her prime at the same time. Altwegg won four consecutive British titles 1948-51 and prevented Adams from winning a title. Adams competed at every World and European Championship from 1947-49, with a best finish of fifth at the 1949 Worlds. At the 1948 London Olympics she finished seventh. One of her best victories was in winning the 1949 Swiss International Figure-skating Championship. She became part of the all-star skating spectacular “Icelandia” in 1949. A talented singer, Adams married Jockey Club member Sir Piers Bengough in 1952.
