Trude Jochum-Beiser

Trude Beiser was born in Lech am Arlberg in the Vorarlberg, but later competed as Jochum-Beiser after her marriage. She first was noticed in the 1946-47 season, winning the slalom at the Arlberg-Kandahar race and the SDS race in Grindelwald. At Sankt Moritz in 1948 Jochum-Beiser won a silver in the downhill and an FIS gold medal for the combined event, which was not an Olympic event that year.

After the 1948 Winter Olympics Beiser married Alfred Jochum, had a child and retired from racing. But she returned in 1950 and at the World Championships that year in Aspen, Jochum-Beiser won gold in the downhill and a silver in the giant slalom. She again stepped away from the sport for a year but returned for the 1952 Olympic season, winning the downhill gold medal at the Oslo Games, and being named Austrian Sportswoman of the Year for 1952.

That ended her international career, although she continued to compete domestically for a few years. Jochum-Beiser later worked as a ski trainer and ran a café in her hometown. In 1996 she was given a gold medal for her services to the Republic of Austria.
