Italian cross-country skiier Manuela Di Centa competed at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville for her first Olympic appearance, but she failed to win an individual skiing medal, although she helped her Italian team to a bronze in the relay. However, at Lillehammer in 1994 she uniquely won a medal in all five cross-country skiing events. To her gold medals in the 15 km. and 30 km. she added silver in the 5 km. and combined pursuit and a bronze in the relay. At Nagano in 1998, she was shut out of individual medals, but added a third consecutive bronze in the relay. Di Centa never won a title at the World Championships but she was World Cup champion in both 1994 and 1996. In 2003, Di Centa became the first Italian woman to climb Mount Everest.
