Biography

Max Bösiger was one of the most successful Swiss amateur boxers of his time. Bösiger competed during the 1950s and 1960s, becoming a five-time national champion in the heavyweight division (1955, 1958–61). In 1959 he boxed at the European Championships, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. At the Roma Games he received a bye in the first round before losing to Günter Siegmund (GER) in the next after the referee stopped the contest. An all-round sportsman, Bösiger was a keen cyclist and rower, winning two Swiss championship titles in the latter.
