Christine Goitschel competed at only one Winter Olympics, Innsbruck in 1964, but won a gold medal in the slalom and tied for the silver medal in giant slalom with Jean Saubert, placing behind her sister, Marielle. In the 1964 slalom, Marielle won the silver medal behind Christine. A third Goitschel sister, Patricia, was French junior slalom champion in 1964 but never raced at the Olympics. Christine Goitschel competed in two World Cup seasons, 1966-67 and 1967-68, winning one event, a giant slalom in Franconia, New Hampshire (USA) in 1967. She was a three-time French champion, winning the giant slalom in 1963 and the slalom in 1962 and 1964.
Goitschel retired after the 1968 season when an injury forced her to miss the Grenoble Winter Olympics. She later married her coach, Jean Béranger, and they developed the ski resort of Val-Thorens in 1970. Christine later became a publisher of sports magazines. She was made a chevalier of the légion d’honneur in 1995 and was promoted to an officer of the légion d’honneur in 2009. Her nephew, Philippe Goitschel, was a world record holder in speed skiing, and finished second in the speed skiing demonstration event at the 1992 Albertville Olympics.
