Katrin Gutensohn

Katrin Gutensohn was born in Austria and grew up in Tyrol. She competed as an Alpine speed skier for Austria at the beginning of her career, but was not nominated for the 1989 World Championships, despite having won a silver medal in the downhill at the 1985 Bormio World Championships.

Gutensohn switched to the German Ski Association after marrying a German national, and participated in the Winter Olympics from 1992-98 for Germany in the speed events, downhill and super G. Her best results were sixth places in the 1992 downhill and 1994 super G. In 1990, she won the overall downhill title at the Alpine Ski World Cup.

After her active career, Gutensohn competed in the Ski Carving World Cup, and from 2005 competed in the Ski Cross World Cup for her home country Austria, as she did at the in 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, when she placed 26th in the ski cross event.

Gutensohn won two national downhill championships in Austria and four world cup races for both Austria and Germany. She later studied journalism and became a sports journalist with the Austrian TV channel ORF. She raised three children.
