Biography

Austrian alpine skier Lis Kirchler participated at the 1984 Sarajevo and 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. She placed ninth in the downhill in 1984 and failed to finish the giant slalom. In 1988, she finished eighth in the downhill and 15th in the giant slalom. In 1985, Kirchler won the silver medal in the giant slalom at the World Championships and was elected Austrian Sportswoman of the Year.

In total, Kirchler won four world cup races, three of them in downhill and one in the alpine combination. In 1983, she won her only Austrian national title (giant slalom). Kirchler later occasionally worked as a newspaper columnist and commentator with the Austrian TV channel ORF. She raised three children.
