Luger Angela Knösel had her breakthrough in 1968 when she placed second at the East German Championships behind Ortrun Enderlein. In Grenoble, at the Winter Olympics, she was disqualified with her East German teammates Anna-Maria Müller and Enderlein when it was discovered that they had illegally heated their runners.
In 1969, she again placed second at the East Germans, and in 1970 she won the national title. The same year, and also in 1971, she won two silvers at the Europeans. In 1972 Knösel won her last medal, a bronze at the national championships.
