Biography

Austrian alpine skier Sophie Nogler was the sister of Hans Nogler. The highlight of Sophie’s career was in March 1948 when she won the slalom, downhill, and combined race at the Hahnenkamm. This came shortly after she had skied at the St. Moritz Winter Olympics, where she was less successful, placing 26th in the downhill.

Sophie Nogler grew up at Gröden in South Tyrol, but the Italian authorities forced the family to leave Italy after World War II and they moved to Lienz in Austria. After her active carer she worked in tourism, and was a woodcarver and an entertainment singer, in addition to being a skiing instructor.
