Austrian luger Angelika Schafferer, grand-aunt of Madeleine Egle, and her non-Olympian sister Selina, participated in the women’s singles at three editions of the Winter Olympics: 1972 Sapporo, 1976 Innsbruck, and 1980 Lake Placid. She came 11th, eighth and seventh respectively. At the 1978 World Championships Schafferer won a bronze medal.
Domestically, Schafferer won the national title in 1968, 1971, 1973 and 1977-81 (there was no championship from 1974-76). Between 1979-81 she won the overall world cup three times in a row. Schafferer later became a graduated tourist guide at Innsbruck.
